The picturesque Lake Bled – is one of the most outstanding places that are worth visiting in Slovenia

visiting Bled lake and Triglavski park

The picturesque Lake Bled is located in the mountainous area of incredible beauty 30 m deep, over 2 km long and 1.3 km wide.

Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, is not far from here (45 km), as well as the Austrian city of Graz (219 km).

A weekend in Graz (Austria)

The attire of Lake Bled is a small natural island Blejski otok in the middle, where a church with a bell tower are located. You can swim on boats to it.

There’s a 130 m tall rock over the lake, with the Bled Castle (Blejski Grad) built on its top. It opens incredible views over the lake and the Alps.

Ironically, a parking lot near the castle is free. However, it’s fee-paying near the lake. Tickets price to the castle is 10 euros/person. The official web-site can be found  here

However, you can enjoy a beautiful landscape from the height of the castle at the Lake Bled and the island free of charge as well by going round the castle along the path to the right from the entrance.

You can spend a night in a rather beautiful guest house Vila Mangart, located in the opposite direction from the main town of Bled, but close to the lake.

The Triglav National Park (Triglavski narodni park)

60 km from the Lake Bled one can visit the Triglav National Park, which starts from the village of Kranjska Gora. The first interesting and beautiful place to stop at once are two small lakes with crystal clear water against the background of high snow-capped rugged mountains.

And then unreal spectacular views of the vertical giant mountains begin. We climbed at an altitude of 1580 m almost along a straight road, wherefrom the mountains were very well visible, the one we saw from the Lake Bled. Moreover, it was not only the peak by height, but also by scenery.

You can come across all four seasons of the year in one day: summer on the Lake Bled, fall on the way to the Triglav Park, winter at the peak of the pass, and spring – by going to fresh and blooming valleys of the park.

We were as close to the snowy giants as possible, and it was impressive. We drove along the road cleared from snow, while untouched snow blankets were still lying without melting. And it was May outside.

Then we started going down the bends to the other side of the Triglav Park. Green hills began peeping out and snowy cliffs were towering in the distance – around the valley with beautiful spring grass and flowering trees.

In about 40 km another remarkable natural attractions of Slovenia began – waterfalls. One of them – slap Kozjak in the town of Kobarid.

If you turn before the bridge towards the camping site at the entrance to the fall, you can get into a free parking, and if you cross the bridge, you’ll have to pay – 1 euro/hour.

From the parking lot through the camping side you have to go down the wooden stairs, reach the long bridge over the incredibly beautiful river of a light shade of emerald. Then the path leads through the woods for about 15-20 minutes’ walk.

The most interesting begins in the end – the road along the river, through funny bridges, with intrigue, as you don’t see the waterfall, just hear its noise.

Then we went up a wooden path along the rock, which turns behind the mountains with a narrow snake. At first you hear a loud noise, but you don’t feel the power of the waterfall by the river, because the current is calm and the river is small.

But as soon as you get round the corner, the whole scale opens, which offers impressive views.

A 10-13 meters waterfall is flowing into a beautiful turquoise-clear lake among the split rocks. The split between the rocks has wavy shape and you can see green trees and blue sky from there.

The Triglav Park is surely worth visiting – from the snow-capped cliffs to beautiful waterfalls that are not rare here.

This will be an incredible journey for you!
