Weekend in Lublin – a little Krakow
А little Krakow or the largest and the oldest city in eastern Poland. The main street is called Krakow suburbs – stores are mostly located there. This is a long wide street, which leads to the Krakow gate, and the Old Town and the Hall are behind the gate. The Old Town in Lublin is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved. It has its own uniqueness, due to unmatchable ornaments on the buildings. There’s the Lublin castle nearby with the oldest tower about 30 m in height, which you can climb up and have a look at Lublin.
We went to Lublin for a weekend and accidentally were lucky to come during the days of the festival held in late July. So, there was a plenty of entertainment for visitors and the very residents.
Small street business – lemonade. Take a slice of lemon, add some mint, squeeze some juice, and add sugar. The buyer take as much water as he or she wants. Price – 7 PLN.
We tasted Polish patented street dainty for the first time – smoked cheese toasted on the grill and served with jam.
Ancient Krakow Gate.
The Market Square, as usual, dotted with summer terraces of cafes and restaurants.
During the festival, there were various attractions, such as tightrope walking. There were several ropes in different places and at different heights. These brave people gathered surprised crowds who watched their every step and the way boys and girls were falling down.
The Old Town is quite small with narrow streets and stone houses. Most facades are restored, but there are also many worn out by time waiting for their plastic surgery.
An installation with white umbrellas attracted no less attention.
We have a collection of red umbrellas, which we found in Belgrade, Serbia. And now we have it from Poland.
A photo in the bottom to the left was taken in the morning, and to the right – during the daytime 🙂
There’s a very beautiful tower in the Gothic style near the Market Square. You can climb it up too.
We dropped by a great establishment with the halls throughout the whole three-storey building right opposite the City Hall. You can enjoy magnificent views from the windows.
Food is also delicious. The establishment is called Caffe Trybunalska.
The Market Square is magical in the evening. All facades along the perimeter of the Hall have the same lighting, which changes colors.
Atmospheric and cozy, since the square is small, everything is nearby.
On Monday after the festival we could wander the city alone, without crowds, but with the sun.
That’s a closer view of the Trinitarian Tower, built in the Gothic Revival style, which is the highest tower in the city (40 m). It’s a pity that it’s closed early in the morning.
From the Old Town you can go to the Lublin Castle. The building is also very interesting and unique in its appearance.
From the Castle you can go down the stairs to a large square, where a parking lot was arranged. But here you can see similar houses that stretched along the square in a long line.
Here is the entrance to the Old Town from the Lublin Castle.
Very cool houses, but the bottom is riddled with cars that do not fit into the picture)
There’s the oldest Tower called Donjon inside the Lublin Castle. The walls in this tower are 3m thick; it has three floors.
Streets around the Old Town.
We discovered Lublin for ourselves for the first time and were very satisfied with the time we spent there. Now, leaving from or returning to Warsaw, we can stop on the way for a break in such a familiar place. Spinacz cafe.
