Weekend in Warsaw: things to do

Weekend in Warsaw: things to doWeekend in Warsaw - Things to do

We have been here about 10 times for sure. By train or for shopping. The weather was not pleasing us with its warmth those times and we couldn’t really enjoy the city. Usually, like almost everyone else, we flew from Warsaw to other countries, such as France or Spain. This year, we finally had a chance to have a closer look at Warsaw, although due to 35-degree heat, we haven’t visited all what we wanted. See what worked out.

Early in the morning, we found a free place in the parking lot and went to wander around the old town.

We learned only this time that Warsaw was completely destroyed by Hitler. But Poles Wanted and Restored everything as it used to be by old pictures. And a thought came to our minds at once: a photograph – is as important memory that can be found in archives and recall the appearance, feelings and memories that are depicted there.

Even now, we saw how housefronts on the Market Square were renovated.

A spacious square and a fountain, which is a physical image of the Warsaw’s emblem. A mermaid beckons all people around.

Strange white constructions)

Carefully arranged terraces of restaurants – all as one big.

A reminder sign about Warsaw busting.

The newly built Royal Castle.

Very sweet housefronts with a beautiful shade of paint.

Perhaps the most popular tourist spot – the narrowest house – one window in width.

It’s cozy enough to walk along Old Warsaw. Cars don’t interfere, paving blocks or tiles underfoot. Interesting little streets, arches, buildings.

Modern Warsaw is also enchanting. It’s pleasant to drive by car, but count on extra time because of traffic jams. There’re many road interchanges here, but the flow of cars shatters hopes to get from the end of the city to the old center in 10 minutes. We drove about 30-40 minutes.

The Palace of Culture and Sports, or a Stalinist skyscraper, this building can be seen from everywhere, as it’s the highest in Warsaw. A giant monument to Soviet Union. For a moment it seemed as if we were in Bucharest (there’s also such a style of architecture), but when you turn back you realize that you’re in Warsaw.

Zlote Tarasy – probably the coolest mall we have ever been so far. A glass roof on higher floors looks even better from inside than from outside.

warsaw-45

The Palace of Culture occupies a giant area; the territory is also used as a paid parking lot. You can climb to a 114 m height to the observation deck and see a cool view of the modern Warsaw, and a full circle in general. It’s best option to go up there at night, or at sunset – when the majority of the facilities glow and light flickers. We, unfortunately, had no time to get there.

A charming atmosphere reigns in the evening in the Old Town. Old houses with windows radiating warm light. Terraces and streets come alive after a hot day. Day light gradually disappears and night’s magic comes.

Lanterns are glowing on the streets and terraces, people start gathering on the Castle Square to hang out. We were here in August at a 35-degree heat. They arranged a hose with water on the square and made a sort of fountain, so that passersby could freshen up.

We’ve climbed up the tower at the Castle Square and met sunset watching the Old Town, the Castle Square, the Royal Castle and the modern area, which was also well visible.

It was so sweet and pleasant to hear Okean Elzy’s song by street musician who also sang The Beatles and other cool artists in Polish, English and Ukrainian of course 🙂

We just had not time to visit interesting attractions, because non-tourist ones are far from the Old Town and scattered in various areas. But it’s Warsaw anyway) The city of departures, transfers, transits, shopping, IKEA. The most visited city by us. We will come back here more than once.
