What to do in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria

What to do in Las Palmas on Gran CanariaWhat to do on Las Palmas (Gran Canaria island)

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – is the capital of Gran Canaria, and every four years it used to be the capital of all the Canary Islands as well, after the one on Tenerife – Santa Cruz.

The city is quite common. They built ugly houses there, but parks and alleys are beautifully decorated.

It’s very difficult with parking space there, especially if you are not a resident of Spain. First of all, all spaces should be paid for, or are just for the locals. Secondly, it’s almost impossible to park on the streets. We wanted to, but failed to pay in a parking machine, although there was an information that it’s possible for non-resident, but we were not allowed for more than 15 minutes. However, you can often come across underground parking lots, getting there among the narrow streets in the city center. In fact, it may be a building with five floors + a roof. Prices starting from 1.7 euro/hour. Other options don’t exist.

However, we arrived in the capital just on the day we sailed to another island and had to hand over the car. We accidently came to that very underground parking lot, where there were parking spaces of our Sisag company. So we parked the car, but didn’t took out our baggage from it while were walking around the city, and then took the suitcases, closed the car and left the parking lot. A coupon of payment for parking and the keys we put in the PO Box of Sisag office just 5 meters from the building of the parking. Thus, we saved on the payment for parking for a few hours and had a place to store our luggage. And it was not a long way to go to the stop, where a bus was waiting for us to take to the ferry.

The metropolitan beach, which is on the west side of the city, is used mainly for jogging)

Buildings with the view on the ocean are mostly just terrible 🙂 The same as the restaurants where they “do not care” about at least average cuisine, not to speak about the haute one.

We would like to speak separately about the Canarian pharmacies. There are plenty of them, almost at every turn. They sell mostly cosmetics, even perfumes in these pharmacies. These are not just pharmacies, but stores that may come with super-cool interior designs. Nearby stores with fashionable clothes can fade next to the pharmacy with a luxurious modern design inside. And the size of the premises should be large by default.

We really like the townscape and infrastructure. It’s spacious, green, flowery and functional!

We were so happy that we finally found the first modern place in the Canary Islands. It was really very difficult. Foursquare is useless here, just walk on your own and look for a good luck. Here we accidentally discovered modernity, light, comfort and aesthetics versus darkness, perennity, old age, slot machines and tasteless cappuccino. And the most valuable – is a place to work!

The whole building is the Bed&Chik hotel with a roof terrace and a modern design, which the Canary Islands lack so much. A reception is right in the café, next to the bar counter.
