Galata neighborhood in Istanbul

Galata neighborhood in Istanbul. Galata neighborhood is the second most popular in Istanbul, located in the European part of the city. Separated from Sultanahmet district with a strait, connected with Galata Bridge – another tourist location. Guests also visit this area due to the Galata Tower, Taksim Square and the major pedestrian street Istiklal.istanbul galata-1At the two-storeyed Galata Bridge Turks are fishing, and restaurants are located below.
istanbul galata-1On both sides of the bridge you can see the entire flavor associated with Turkish trade and street food. On the side of Sultanahmet there are special decorative boats, where cooks fry fish on the grill and cook the famous Belik akmek (fish in bread). And on the shore salespeople are standing with money boxes who sell that, in a meter from coast over the water fish in bread is handed over.
istanbul galata-1There are three boats, they stand one by one. All places are occupied; you have to wait until someone eats up, if you want to dine on site.
istanbul galata-1Another Turkish “ginger” is sold at once – marinade with cucumbers (2 lira/pc). Like a cocktail. Or the stuffed shells with rice and lemon. (1 lira/pc).
istanbul galata-1We’ve tried out everything – tasty, you can try that once.istanbul galata-1But it looks as if locals hang out here more and enjoy this food.

istanbul galata-1There’s always too crowded, and sellers try to make you buy something every few minutes, such as, wet wipes, lemonade, Coke. And simply throw wet wipes or thrust Coke in your hands. They don’t care that you refused the last time.

istanbul galata-1We simply wanted to wander the streets and find something interesting for us.
istanbul galata-1And we found a colored wall at once.

istanbul galata-1The most crowded street in the Galata neighborhood is the one that leads directly to the Galata Tower, and then changes into Istiklal Street. Therefore, if you walk along other nearby streets, there will be no crowds and intrusive Turks.

istanbul galata-1Here, in the industrial area, we visited several places, about which we wrote in a separate article here. Then we again went to more crowded streets near the Galata Tower.

istanbul galata-1We actually saw less cats in Istanbul than expected. We came across dirty ones more often. And here’s a little family nest, but the place isn’t photogenic.

istanbul galata-1
istanbul galata-1You can reach the Taksim Square by funicular from the side of the Galata Tower or from the main transport station Kabatas.

istanbul galata-1Maggie is shocked too.

istanbul galata-1You can survive here for five minutes, and then better turn to parallel streets, where you can see many interesting things.
istanbul galata-1
istanbul galata-1Well, we stayed a little longer to try the dope. You should taste only their Turkish ice cream in Turkey, because you won’t try such nowhere else. Very tasty and natural. Seller is always dressed in a suit and shows tricks to every buyer. It’s very entertaining, even if you have already seen it from the sidelines. Price 7 lira, portions are large.

istanbul galata-1Kabatas district, here’s a final tram station and the main sea port where ships head to the Prince’s Islands (about which an article is here).
istanbul galata-1The waves are always big there because of ships traffic from everywhere.
istanbul galata-1
istanbul galata-1Anglers organize fishing wherever they can. It doesn’t matter that ships are hanging around. They are taking out the haul from dirty water up to 10 pieces at a time.

istanbul galata-1On our way home, we decided to drop by the fishing market on the side of Galata Bridge. Prices are relatively expensive (if compared with Croatia and Greece), one fish costs from 5 lira. Here they sell fish by the piece, not per 1 kg. And who knows where that fish was caught. We have a sneaking suspicion that from this dirty water spoiled by ships and sewage rivers that we saw in the Asian part.
