Where to eat in Sofia: Awesome Guide
What we liked most in Bulgaria, particularly in Sofia – is dining facilities. We stayed at a hostel in the very city center, 500 meters from the main attraction – the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. And we were lucky to have an interesting neighborhood street. Interesting is the fact that there is an interesting shop or establishment in every house. That’s how we got to the best restaurant of all Balkan countries. It is located in a pink house.
You only need to know that there’s another facility where you get in at the entrance (ONE MORE). And to get to the next one entitled LAVANDA – you need to go inside the yard, along ONE MORE terrace. At the entrance there are even two inscriptions: ONE MORE to the left, and LAVANDA to the right.
Lavanda meets everyone with a decorated bicycle and tables in the yard.
But once you come up into the house you can choose a place: in one of three rooms, in a room with a kitchen, on a terrace, or on a small balcony. There is a choice from the whole multiroom apartment, overlooking at the all sides.
We have chosen this room. Stylish design, lots of windows and beautiful tiny details.
Though it’s a public place, you feel being at home a bit. There are refrigerators and bottles of wine on the shelves. Refrigerators are here not just for beauty because they are often visited by chefs taking something out of them, but the chefs are coming joyful and tuning something. As though we live together and know each other for a long time.
Every detail is thought out here, which so coincides with our tastes.
We came for lunch. The menu offered only a few dishes and it is wonderful. We chose national cold soup and mushroom soup.
We were immediately brought water with mint and tasty bakery. It was so pleasant to get to know that it’s free. Water and bread straight from the tin is a compliment from the facility.
Every tiny detail is thought out here, including dishes serving. It is so interesting to pour from such a pretty cup into even more pretty bowl by yourself.
Bulgarian cold soup is called Tarator, the main ingredients of which are fresh cucumbers and butter milk.
Both soups are delicious and full of flavor.
And the bowls are a discovery. They are very steep giant cups of fresh color.
We ordered mussels casserole. They invented unusual dish, which turned out to be a delicious one.
And here we found the most comfortable bar chairs.
After the delicious dinner we went to look around the Lavanda apartment. Here is a large terrace – it is quite comfortable.
Kitchen-room is seen from the terrace.
You can sit at such a table in this room and watch or communicate with chefs.
Hood – it’s something! It’s huge. There’s a glass vase with small meringues near green cups– they give these meringues with bill – another little sweet welcome from the facility. It’s so cute.
Here work at least 5 persons though the facility is out of the tourist area. Perhaps locals enjoy coming here. We were invited to come on Thursday evening to watch a movie on the projector. Too bad we drove away from Sofia.
Another room is decorated in a different style.
And this is another one. Our bill for three meals totaled around 9 dollars. Here everything beautifully mingled: interior, staff, food, and prices.
We went for coffee to another facility. At the other end of the center.
This one is much smaller, with one room and seats outside, near the window. It’s cool sitting near such a window overlooking the tram going by. The cafe is called ФАБРИКА ДЬГА.
And inside everything as we like.
And as always bearded baristas, whose coffee is the most delicious.
You can order salad, sandwich or dessert to coffee here.
We ordered a specialty salad and Caprese sandwich. It was very tasty. Interesting ingredients are combined in the salad and delicious sandwich of tasty bread soaked with olive pasta with tomatoes, mozzarella, and lettuce.
Locals also come and hang out here. Our bill totaled to around 11 dollars. For latte, frappe, salad, and sandwich.
We left these two facilities in Sofia with vivid impressions of Bulgaria.
