A walk with the cats in Bosphorus University in Istanbul
In Turkish it sounds Boğaziçi Üniversitesi. This is the first American university outside the United States. They teach in English, and about 12 thousand students study here. The university is situated in a picturesque location, on a hill with a view on Bosphorus bay and the area is surrounded by greenery. A subway line has been especially done to it recently. So we took a ride here. The territory is huge and guarded. But we passed by the security as students 🙂 We went to the main buildings (the largest perimeter on the map). Here are the views on the way. Here are the views on the way.
And there are the buildings. Special vehicles bring students here, or they may walk 6 minutes from campus.
There are several dining rooms and cafeterias. And plenty of cats! Such a cozy atmosphere.
We came in the morning, so everybody probably were studying, because there were almost nobody on the territory.
How do they sleep that way ))
A dining room for students. Quite nice but small. All are the same here.
The food in this one is quite ok. We had a rice with chicken and a soup. Fresh fruit, cakes, coffee, yogurt are also here.
Another one, but cafeteria.
A little bit sleepy showed up the sellers 🙂
It’s cool to sit here with a laptop.
Cats walk here, where they wish. This one came to us while we were eating.
An ideal picture of studentship – sitting in the shade on a fresh lawn with friends and enjoying your young years. We met dogs everywhere in this position; it seems that the climate is not good for them in southern Europe.
And then … We decided to walk to another subway station and not to the one next to us. We appeared in a concrete area not for pedestrians and while were asking a Turk where’s subway, he offered to give us a lift. The first way we asked if it was free of charge for we have learned for a few days) So, we got into the car and felt a driving style of Turks. The driver delivers water, so he’s very experienced. Here all behave as if were rushing to bring their pregnant wife who is about to give birth to Emergency. The traffic light gives the green, but the first three cars start a little bit slowly – that’s ok, I‘ll drive around in the opposite lane. You have to give way to a pedestrian? – No, haven’t heard that. The pedestrian moves slowly at his rightful light, and I’m turning – he should go faster! A roundabout and I have to give way to someone – no, they should do that, I’m signaling! Here’s a little tour into the world of Turkish drivers. To be continued in the overall story. And the Turk brought us to the metro station, we wanted to get around to the next one:)
So, we found ourselves again at the funniest station in Istanbul, apparently made specifically for students.
And then we went to another district and made for the coast. It feels well enough that Istanbul is located on a hilly terrain.
Steep stairs and roads are fitted tightly and everywhere between the houses.
If you go down from residential neighborhoods, you can get to another market.
Here’s how fish departments are organized)
And we drew back to hookah, and then went to another interesting district of Istanbul. To be continued…
With love, RH.
