Mirador del Rio on Lanzarote

Mirador del Rio on Lanzarote – Spaceship with the 1 million worth view

Mirador del Rio on Lanzarote

All the uniqueness is due to the nature, which César Manrique, being in love with it, emphasized and allowed contemplating all of the beauty and fantasticality to anyone who feels like it. We went to the greenest part of the island, where palm trees and some cities were miraculously preserved. Once this area Haria was called “Valley of a Thousand Palms“. Today the palms and greenery partly survived making the landscape of this part of the island completely opposite to the south. The spaceship will be dwelled upon a bit later. Since beforehand we visited the town of Teguise – that’s the oldest town that also survived during volcanoes’ eruptions which lasted for 6 years.

The same architectural style preserved here, as on the whole island. All houses are white and the doors and windows are of emerald or turquoise shades. It’s the only island truly retaining its authenticity, and that’s owing to a man who managed to convince everybody that this is important and aesthetical.

This town is one of the most popular because a great Market is held here every Sunday, of the entire town’s size!

What a mess is happening here on that day. It’s good we visited it in the evening first time, when there was none even on a weekday. On Sunday in the morning we managed to reach a small parking site in the center and for free. And all entrances starting from 9 a.m. and all parking sites have signs about the fee. And you have to walk several hundred meters from those parking sites.

We had no desire to take photos of everything that was happening there)). All the streets were stuffed with goods’ tents, moreover, many more stores that are open on a daily basis. What is being sold? – as usual, all the same, mostly Chinese rags. We feel sorry we didn’t have a single shot taken as the 5th woman in the crowd had a Chinese curly pink wrapper on, which she bought in one of the stalls 🙂

Nearby Teguise there’s a pirate castle built on top of the crater wall. We went there just to see the town panorama)

Caleta de Famara are the highest rocks on Lanzarote. Everything looks different than in the island’s south, with only lava and craters everywhere. And here are the sand desert, other mountains, and flat beaches.

The sand runs over the road or invades it totally.

After you can go onto the rocks and contemplate the unreal beauty below once more.

We were reaching over the edge of those rocks to the most spectacular observation deck to view all the Canary Islands.

Here we got like into a spaceship of unusual rounded shape and minimalist design. Although this building was reconstructed and completed merely in the 1970’s, it still looks like from the future. Mirador del Rio is one of the 7 wonders of Cesar Manrique.

Its design is similar to the rest of the miradors built by César. There was once a military observation tower here and Manrique altered it for the beauty in harmony with the nature. The view from there is just incredible. El Rio is located just above an abyss overlooking the neighboring island of La Graciosa.

Ticket price is 9 € for both of us. Coffee shop in the like manner as in El Diablo – thus we weren’t eager to buy any coffee but just were enjoying the scenery while sitting on the sofas.

You can come onto the roof from the building. But the wind was very strong, it’s better to contemplate looking out of the panoramic windows from inside)

La Graciosa is the smallest island concerning area with people living on. There is only one city, whose inhabitants go fishing and selling the fish. Or tourists sail there for a few hours for roundtrip ticket worth 20 €.

The rest of the Canary Islands, together accounting for 13, as though the whales, are seen behind La Graciosa. But nobody lives over there; they are more appreciated as mountains, and not as islands.

Outstanding impressions while standing near these huge windows overlooking the ocean and the island, flat like a pancake. It’s very cool! Such high windows emphasize and add even more charm to the landscape. You see not just the ocean here, but a frabjous island and more stunning mountains behind it! Powerful and unforgettable emotions from what we’ve seen.

It’s so quiet and pleasant inside. And we fail to come out on top and even to enjoy the island 🙂

All of this looks very cool. Especially those smaller islands really resembling the whales, which seem to come out on the water surface to take a lark.

The other side of Lanzarote is green, fresh, without lava.

And then we again headed towards Teguise and Famara rocks.
