Wonderful heaven on La Gomera and amazing views

Wonderful heaven on La Gomera and amazing viewsWhat to see on La Gomera (Amazing mirador de Abrante)

The biggest Teide volcano on the neighboring Tenerife Island is visible from the entire eastern part of the island. There is a viewing platform at the winning place, where we went to in the morning. We came when it was still closed, as usual, but fortunately you can walk next to the restaurant fence and the very platform. Mirador de Abrante. You can see the town of Agulo below.

Here we can see the Teide volcano, the whole Tenerife Island – and just some time before we climbed that giant. You can feel the difference in scale very well from the small island of La Gomera. We were on the very top of the volcano, at a height of 3718 m, and saw La Gomera and other islands from there, where we are later going to sail to as well.

La Gomera – is the feminine name, though the first time we were in the Canary Islands we called the island Little Homer, like Homer Simpson) But La Gomera still fits here. Especially if you imagine the island in the bonnet of clouds. And so it is. Every day we watched as clouds gathered at the top of the island. All others do not have it, there’s some on Tenerife somewhere at the bottom, because clouds are rare at the Teide volcano, since it’s too high. And it’s always like that here; the island is as if hugging fluffy clouds. So we called it – the Island in the bonnet of clouds.

This Mirador is cool. The restaurant was built on the edge of the rock with panoramic windows, it is terrifying to look down.

Such a variety of colors … we can see so many interesting shades only at sunrise and at sunset. And do you know why the sky is blue and the sun is orange in the morning and white in the noon?

mirador abrante-6

The sun is actually white. And white includes all the main colors, the one we know from the rainbow. We can contemplate the fantastic colors of the sky only during sunrise and sunset, and at other times of the day such a common blue sky and white sun. It’s simply that blue color dissipates best in the air when the sun is high, and when it is closer to the horizon red colors dissipate more.

There have been no volcanic eruptions on Little Homer during the last 2 million years, so it’s green enough and have its unique relic forests preserved, which even we enjoyed)

La Gomera is impenetrable on almost all sides; mountains are not very high, up to 1500 m.

The island is so small that some roads are not suitable for jeeps) and some are good only for pedestrians)

Then we went to the most famous valley – Valle Gran Rey. There is a complex of hotels and entertainment facilities for tourists. Citizens cultivate fruits in the furnished terraces, there are palm plantations as well.

Taguluche-1

Such a small settlement in the valley surrounded by high, almost vertical mountains and serpentine roads. To get to this valley, which is located in the west at the edge of the island, i.e. closer to water, you need to go from the capital along the National Park with the forest and fog, and then go down for quite a long time to the resort. The resort itself had nothing to astonish us – hotels, bars and shops, as always. Our little Hermigua was more to our liking.

Taguluche-2

To get to the next place, which is located behind the mountain in the neighborhood, you need to go up to the National Park again along the serpentines, there through the fog and wet forest, and then go down to another place) Oh, what a good ride we had!

It is strikingly beautiful here. Having been on six Canary Islands, we can say for sure that each island is different, has something to impress with, and is worth visiting. La Gomera is tiny, yet powerful, almost unconquered by people, quiet and green. There are no volcanoes and craters her – everything has been sleeping for millions of years.

Taguluche-4 Taguluche-5

Quite a different perception of earth after living in the concrete walls around, even native mountains were perceived not that way – here it was somehow differently.

Palm trees instead of the common ones, and rabbits running across in front of the wheels, lots of greenery, mountains and serpentines. It`s from Taguluce

We came back to our banana grove once again in the dark to have a rest)
