Weekend in Wroclaw: Will you find all of the dwarves?

Weekend in Wroclaw: Will you find all of the dwarves?Weekend in Wroclaw - Will You Find All Of The Dwarves?

We were pleasantly surprised by this city, we felt here amid other, less familiar architecture, and then it turned out to be more interesting here than in Krakow and Warsaw (compared to the Market Square). In general the city has its own feature. Here, you can see both horrible monster-houses – it’s even hard to call this architecture – and old beautiful and elegant facades very close one to another. And the most specific is that this is the city of magic and fairy tales. You should be careful walking through the streets since you can come across a dwarf beneath your feet. Little dwarfs suddenly appear out of nowhere. As though you have already been here and looked around this place, and out of the blue you spot a dwarf doing something.

Weekend in Krakow: things to do

Weekend in Warsaw: things to do

The Market Square is pretty large, with Gothic City Hall in the middle and another building attached to it and having a passage to the other side of the square.

wroclaw-3 wroclaw-4 wroclaw-5 wroclaw-6 wroclaw-7

The City Hall building resembles a fairy tale castle of Princess.

wroclaw-8 wroclaw-9  wroclaw-11  wroclaw-13

Cool building with enormous windows, somehow similar to the department store (Pravda Beer Theatre) in Lviv.

wroclaw-14  wroclaw-16 wroclaw-17 wroclaw-18

Two-windowed houses are often found here, so thin and slim.

Here we met the first dwarf.

wroclaw-20

In fact, heading for Wroclaw we have read a little about dwarfs scattered throughout the city but we weren’t as interested as it turned out to be 🙂 Dwarfs…, well what of them? But in reality finding new sculptures does suck down. Moreover, they are so cute and all different – reflecting different occupations. Their creators even made a website about dwarfs, where you can find a map and arrange a quest – to find as many dwarfs as possible, and there are over 150 of them not only in the center, in the Market Square, but also in further districts of the city. Since we didn’t think we would enjoy such an affair until the first dwarf with a heart in hand found us, we neither visited the website nor downloaded the map. So during the whole stroll we found only 5-6. Or they found us)

It’s like being children we were happy while holding a kinder-surprise thrilled in expectation to find a favorite toy from the collection inside the chocolate; it was bingo when the toy was new, unlike those we already had. Similarly in Wroclaw, while walking along the streets, public gardens and squares – like in a chocolate – you look with fascinated eyes for new dwarf sculptures.

And here one more to the collection.

wroclaw-22 wroclaw-23 wroclaw-24 wroclaw-25 wroclaw-26 wroclaw-27

Beggar-dwarfs.

wroclaw-28

Space – is freedom. And when you’re free, your soul is happy and mind is calm. You hear you ego and know what to do.

It’s best to have a rest on such a deckchair, since you won’t relax sitting on a bench. And there is so much room here, surrounding space, and freedom. It’s so strange and at the same time amusedly to see this modern square to be devised in such a scale with so disgusting buildings around – you’re just struck by such a combination. When laying on the deckchair in the middle of the square those buildings are so far away that hardly bother the eyes, and the trees cover them with their leaves in the summer. There are such moments that Wroclaw strikes; the local dwellers try to endure the monstrosity of the recent past and teach people to move towards the better by small steps. When the time comes, how quickly will it be possible overturn the old and build the new?

You can see different things including quite ugly houses outside the Market Square. But among them there are palaces and churches standing proudly and presenting joy with their beauty.

wroclaw-31 wroclaw-32 wroclaw-33 wroclaw-34 wroclaw-35 wroclaw-36

For a moment the Wroclaw’s architecture resembles another romantic French city.

wroclaw-37

And sometimes the streets of Wroclaw attract the eyesight because of completely different buildings next to each other.

wroclaw-38 wroclaw-39

Another dwarf to the collection.

wroclaw-40

The chimeric house decoration is a cafe on the ground floor, which you want to be in.

wroclaw-41 wroclaw-42 wroclaw-43 wroclaw-44

The only skyscraper in modern style in Wroclaw is Sky Tower. There is an observation deck on the top; you can buy a ticket beneath, at the office. We did not come up due to cloudy weather. And there’re many shops and dining options scattered in different corners on different floors (on the first two or three floors).

wroclaw-45

And we visited exquisite Di cafe Deli in style of 50th.

wroclaw-46

Large common table with a bouquet of flowers, and the top element that most touches – gentle cloud of lanterns. And soft chairs next to it in front of windows, again close to each other.

wroclaw-47 wroclaw-48 wroclaw-49 wroclaw-50

There is a square menu on each table that is painted as a game board on the reverse with chips lying next to it.

wroclaw-51 wroclaw-52 wroclaw-53 wroclaw-54

Another amazing and hypnotizing object is the Folk Museum. The most interesting isn’t inside but on the exterior. Old brick facade covered with colored ivy. It as though absorbed the building into its magic. We saw white figures from the riverside and wanted to come up but at the time construction works of the riverwalk renovation were carried out.

wroclaw-55

Windows barely make their way through the vegetation to give a little light to the premises.

wroclaw-56 wroclaw-57 wroclaw-58 wroclaw-59

The most interesting perspective. The facade angle is as if the mirror reflection of one part of the museum. No wonder Wroclaw is the city with magic, it simply should be noticed.

wroclaw-61

We were wandering around the building from all its sides; it was a pity the entry from water side was closed.

wroclaw-62 wroclaw-63 wroclaw-64

The Folk Museum is located near the main road and the bridge daily carrying a huge stream of cars and viewers.

wroclaw-65

And here in the park you can feel Paris for a moment.

wroclaw-66 wroclaw-67

And we came across a veterinary clinic, which can’t be missed for sure). Giant graffiti not only artistic but also on social issues can be found in Wroclaw.
