Unearthly Lanzarote: reasons to go

What to see on Lanzarote - Playa Papagayo!Lanzarote Island is the 6th island we’ve visited during our trip all over the Canary Islands. We arrived here in Playa Blanca on a ferry from Corralejo, that’s on Fuerteventura Island in 40 minutes from here and 48 € for two. We considered the previous island to be the coolest of all the Canaries. And having come here we were simply confused: to whom the victory shall go, since Lanzarote seems even cooler! You’ll see this from our stories.

Finally we rented a desirable car! Happily and comfortably we headed for exploring the island!

This time we rented the car from PlusCar but went to Cicar to get the island map ))

We again felt impressed each time upon arrival on a new island. Since all the Canary Islands are different so surprising is their unique charm.

lanzarote papagayo beach

First we went to the most famous beach of Papagayo. Turquoise blue ocean water and golden beaches, and the mountains and rocks of all shades of brown!

Playa Papagayo is a few beaches separated by rocks, where you can come and see all the beauty from above.

The road here leads through the desert through the off-roads. Entrance is worth 3 € per car. It’s more like a mirador, a must-see point on the island map.

Hardened lava cliffs are like giant whales, which accidentally were washed ashore.

Fantastic landscapes!

Then we drove back to Playa Blanca to go out to the main road and to reach the most interesting spots of Lanzarote from there. First we came across a saltworks. But the one on La Palma is much more beautiful!

We arrived to Lanzarote during strong wind’s period. The waves demonstrate all their mighty.

lanzarote-24

Not only big waves hypnotize us and don’t let us go. You are just standing and watching.

For quite long. And expect for the highest, the strongest one!

lanzarote-23lanzarote-28lanzarote-30

The road through the largest number of craters was paved in a thin strip amid the hardened lava. You fail to turn to anywhere, except for the parking site. But it’s worth driving along it with feeling like in a movie about another planet!

lanzarote-31lanzarote-32

It’s not a safe game with powerful waves! You must be vigilant and prudent)

lanzarote-35lanzarote-36

Lava’s everywhere underfoot! Lanzarote dwellers try to interfere into the unique nature of their island as little as possible. If they do anything, it’s only in tune with nature.

lanzarote-37

We arrived at one of the coolest places. Large cliffs being formed of lava stretched for several kilometers. And the craters’ tops, as if blazing, are seen on the background.

Los Ervideros cliffs were the culmination of these rocks. There are both caves and a large moat. And it’s like hellish war between the water and land during strong winds! We were lucky to be here in a period of huge waves.

Here is another attraction by Cesar Manrique – the creator, who managed to show the picks of Lanzarote.

lanzarote-47lanzarote-48

Trails and observation decks are arranged on this rock. The most interesting is almost at the bottom – as a balcony overlooking the giant wave that is going with incredible weight to break the wall. Mist rises a few meters high and sometimes spindrift reaches the people!

lanzarote-50lanzarote-53lanzarote-54

Waste bins are rusted into holes.

lanzarote-52

It’s impressive and stunning to stand on this balcony. And you have to be a lucky one to see these giant waves! It’s creepy here. How many gallons of water are over there?

lanzarote-56lanzarote-55lanzarote-58lanzarote-57

And even more interesting further. It turned out all of us go as if on a powder keg. Through thin bridges with abyss into deep and stormy waters beneath.

lanzarote-60lanzarote-59

Once there was a path 🙂 The thought of being in the abyss make us feel spine-chilling!

lanzarote-62lanzarote-65lanzarote-63

Los Amigos rocks are one of the few free and accessible spots on Lanzarote!

lanzarote-64

These views made a mash!

lanzarote-66lanzarote-67lanzarote-69

The next place to stop is a place with a lake, which was actually formed from strong waves crossing the crab hole. And it’s nice!

lanzarote-70lanzarote-68lanzarote-71lanzarote-74

Drive a little and you’ll come across unrealistic crater wall reliefs. These forms are hardly to make up and they’re artfully designed by the wind.

lanzarote-77lanzarote-76

Having encircled this crater big – you get to the most remote town of El Golfo.

lanzarote-79lanzarote-81lanzarote-82

Lake of toxic green hue water, the business card of Lanzarote, is here. They say that this place is a volcanic crater that crashed.

It’s forbidden to descend – only employees do that – not to mention swimming there 🙂

lanzarote-85

The color of the water is caused by algae. Fantastic patterns made by winds around the lake on the large crater walls. So many colors: from green to purple, from grey shore to blue ocean.

We once again returned to Los Evideros rocks. Unrealistic environment here!

lanzarote-105lanzarote-107lanzarote-106

We were just sitting and watching the waves constantly fighting against the rocks. And once we caught in sight the largest wave, which got to the top of rocks)) People refreshed a little )
