Fabulous Brasov in Romania

Fabulous Brasov in RomaniaOne Day in Brasov - What To See

Brasov is definitely one of the most beautiful towns not only in Romania. Name Brasov means “a fortress”. Indeed this historic medieval center is surrounded by high walls and protective fortresses. Romanians have preserved it in all its glory. Brasov was founded by knights – as so proud it sounds! Brasov is only twenty years older than Ukrainian Lviv. Medieval architectural masterpieces preserved here; the city is surrounded by mountains so you can enjoy the lookout from high.

The historic center is quite small but extremely beautiful and you can contemplate every house for long enough. The whole architecture of the historic center is harmoniously combined, purple tiles preserved on all houses.

Pride of the city and Romania is a gothic Lutheran Church, which is the only that survived around the city in the fire during the Turkish War. Then only charred black walls were left. Later it was restored and the church received the second name – Black. Though, it’s not too black now.

Brasov Market Square and City Hall.

brasov-6

Everything is neat and quite comfortable here.

A huge “Brasov” sign on the mountain looks extremely nice. You can ride in a cabin onto this mountain. Beautiful views of the medieval Brasov open up from there. We didn’t have time to go up in a cabin during working hours. But it’s worth doing so and reaching the letters.

brasov-8

Gothic cathedral – you just feel rigor and history, which it has experienced standing in pride for several centuries. It‘s like powerful knight guarding the town up to now.

brasov-9

Old tiles and cute windows in colored facades. Doll houses glowing and inviting to look at them.

The main pedestrian street is wide enough. Terraces of all restaurants and cafes are located in the street center.

You can as well go upstairs at the City Hall tower.

We found a cozy cafe next to the main square. So we waited out small rainfall, which approached us very slowly alerting by heavy clouds.

brasov-32

Five shy kittens were at the entrance to the facility.

brasov-33

And inside the room is as though it’s from a book of fantastic pleasant tales. A black and white dressing room as if it was from “Through the Looking-Glass” book.

All the walls are hand-painted with various words and sentences at the entrance and near the bar counter.

brasov-38 brasov-39

Such an interesting facility with very pleasant and friendly service.

brasov-40

Market Square in Brasov – small and picturesque.

brasov-41 brasov-42 brasov-43

And then we went to even more interesting place of Brasov.

brasov-44

The longest and narrowest street in Romania. Such a picturesque and painted in three shades of cozy colors and the presence of paving and lights makes it so romantic!

brasov-45  brasov-47

You should also come here and take a walk.

brasov-48

The street is called Strada Sforii –all the locals know it and there are even signs made. This is one of the most popular places in Brasov.

brasov-49 brasov-50

The narrowest street is perpendicular to this main one, which ends by such arc. Modern Brasov starts immediately behind this arc.

.brasov-51

Street paving pattern makes the street festive and matches so much the houses.

brasov-52 brasov-53

And here you can walk under the walls which guard the old town.

brasov-54

Old Town can be viewed from any corner and side. Behind you can go up in a cabin, and here — walk up the observation fortresses that are still preserved and to walk in the forest.

brasov-55

You won’t need to go for long. Immediately you can go to the first tower – Turnul Negru. It’s closed to go up, but it’s enough to go upstairs a little to the entrance to see the landscape, especially the view of the Black Church towering in the background of everything else. The highest point of this Church is 65 m height.

brasov-56

In the photo below this tower is seen. And right next to it there is another one that is a museum and you can walk up higher.

brasov-57

All these houses on the Market Square look even more beautiful and more doll-like from the height. Everything is so neat and well preserved.

brasov-58

Tower Turnul Alb is bigger. Steep stairs lead to it from the city. It offers more central view of the town and the Black Church will be to the left.

brasov-59 brasov-60

It’s also quite interesting to walk under defensive walls. Fine path near a stream and forest.

brasov-61 brasov-62

Behind the old part there is a citadel from which you can also see the city from a good angle. But we did not go there.

brasov-63 brasov-64 brasov-65

Brasov is really fabulous and beautiful. In general, the whole Transylvania region is gorgeous, and it’s worth to be traveled along and across. Brasov is a very popular direction to visit, because the most famous castle in Romania, Dracula’s Castle, is located near it (30 km)!
