Space and freedom is most felt here. Here are the longest and most beautiful wild beaches. There’re so many stunning things on Fuerteventura that it’s better to start from the major ones.
So, 7 reasons: Why Fuerteventura is worth visiting
1) Youth, freedom, pleasure.
The largest number of youth throughout the world comes to Fuerteventura if to encounter all the Canary Islands. Young people live and hang out here. Life is full of surfing, kite surfing, driving over incredible sandy deserts and mountain and beach spaces.
Since the island is sparsely populated, but large in the area, you always are embraced by incredible nature spaces, interesting in shapes and mountains’ textures, amid the longest beaches from 10 to 30 km long. Sense of life lightness is always felt here, and mountains less than 1000 m high, but from the highest points of 400-700 m, cosmic landscapes of warm brown shades of the island’s surface open. It’s worth visiting to feel the spirit of indomitability and freedom!
2) AWESOME Cofete beach – thinking about COFFEE
The longest and most beautiful beaches of the Canary Islands are here, on Fuerteventura. The top rank undoubtedly goes to Cofete beach. To get there you need to drive through the desert and mountains. At the entrance from the very top the entire beach is spread before the eyes. It’s simply breathtaking. It’s a wild and huge beach, which is constantly challenged with the blows from wind and ocean waves. And the mountains rising behind as if lower their braids to the coast. You just wish looking at it without cease. And pleasant shades of coffee and chocolate prevail here. Coming down to the beach, it seems as though there’s no one else on the Earth, as if it’s a desolate planet. The euphoria urges for a dance and confers strong energetics, and the memories will remain vivacious and unforgettable.
3) Wild Sandy Deserts
The Canary Islands are very close to the famous Sahara desert. They obtain strong winds, sand and hot temperature from it. There’re two vast deserts on Fuerteventura – Corralejo and Jable. Jable desert is located on high rocky coast and it encompasses two longest beaches – Cofete and Sotavento. You can drive across the deserts along many paths and stop in incredible places with amazing views. There’re many beaches in Corralejo desert and there, in the north, is a paradise for the surfers. Impressions are strong and unrealistic after visiting these places!
4) Mirador Morro Velosa
There’s only one mirador (observation deck) on Fuerteventura but it’s in such a great location that offers fabulous views of the marvelous mountains and the whole island. Sitting in a cafe and drinking local coffee – barraquitos, – staring into cosmic windows overlooking another planet.
5) Mountains as a piece of art
Come to Fuerteventura and fall in love with silhouettes and shapes of local mountains. You should go to the island even for contemplation of the mountains. Soft, roundish, naked, somewhat erotic, and of interesting pastel shades. Volcanoes here mostly have round and undestroyed tops, which gradually change from one mountain into another, widely spreading all around the island. Mountains enchant with their beauty and soft-looking, tender coffee shades. You are to enjoy them on arrival.
6) Ajuy – incredible NATURE MUSEUM
There’re unique pieces of nature’s art near Ajuy town on Fuerteventura. The islanders have just made paths leading like through an exhibition hall. Incredible cliffs, rocks, landscapes, and huge caves you can come down to and feel being a pirate hiding treasures in the cave. Here you forget about the time and everything else.
Only marvel and wonder: how wind and water managed to create the patterns on the cliff, how powerful waves are, how stony and sharp ground can be. And be even more impressed by the giant caves you descend to by a path from the stairs and feel the fear of being in a black cave with massive stones in the water near it. It’s fantastically interesting here!
7) squirrels, squirrels, and squirrels once more
Fuerteventura allows you meeting cute tiny creatures that in such a friendly and genuine manner run up to people to be feed by them. Of course, you can’t feed the squirrels since this has drastic effect on the cycle of nature and the shape of these charming creatures), but it’s the only island inhabited by large numbers of these caudate. And it’s worth coming here to be able to watch the squirrels at arm length and incidentally treat them to a nut.
Fuerteventura is tremendously beautiful, wild, and barely subdued. Here you are constantly wondering and astounding by what our Earth could be.
Feel the boundless expanse of the longest beaches, be charmed by great shapes of the mountains, make friends with squirrels and drive across deserts. That’s Fuerteventura, the island of strong winds.
