Montenegro is a small country, which territory is almost all covered by mountains, hence the name Crna Gora (Black Mountain). There’s some peculiarity of this country– the Bay of Kotor was formed between beautiful high mountains. Settlements were built along the entire perimeter of the foothills and the main road passes close to the edge of the water. The Bay of Kotor – a place of incredible beauty: deep water between high mountains. Several spectacular places are worth mentioning.

Budva. This city is perhaps the best known in Montenegro. Budva is divided into the old part, which is very tiny and the new one – with tall buildings with apartments for a holiday in the coolest resort in Montenegro. Old Budva’s part is romantic and fabulous. Orange roofs are glowing in the sun, narrow streets allow wandering and finding interesting shops. And secret gates that lead to beaches, where you can sit on the café terrace and enjoy flavor of the sea and the rays of the sun, eat or drink summer fresh juice and smoothie.

There’s Citadel in the old part, where you can go and climb to the highest spot of the city to have a look at everything from the top: orange tiles of the houses on the one hand and waves carefully carving mighty fortress on the other one. Read more here.

There’s another very nice and beautiful place near Budva – Sveti Stefan Island. At present, it hosts a hotel complex, so you can get inside only if you live here or visit the restaurant. However, it’s worth to come and look at this island, besides there are beaches opposite it, where everyone can come and relax on the background of this lovely place.

The town of Kotor is well preserved until today. This is a town-fortress with high walls, churches and houses. Like almost all cities in Montenegro, it is located at the foot of the mountain. It’s interesting that you can climb to the top of the mountain walls that start from the old town. The views of the entire Bay of Kotor, the old Kotor and mountains are simply spectacular from the top.

There are numerous streets and mysterious alleyways in the town, stairs that will seemingly lead nowhere, squares and gates. A deep river flows around the fortress that flows from the mountains and connects with the Bay of Kotor. It’s tremendously here. See more here.

Montenegro is the numerous mountains. And what views open from the higher spots? – just incredible! The Bay of Kotor is very beautiful, and from the Lovcen Pass – amazing, simply breathtaking. The height of 2,600 meters – it’s so high and you can see the entire bay, and the main thing is that you can see the Adriatic Sea from here and how the sun sets over the horizon.

It’s already dark in the Bay and the sun on the mountain is not going to sleep yet. At a distance of mere 23 km from Kotor you can enjoy spectacular sunsets and views. See more here.

There are so many beautiful and romantic towns in Montenegro, but each has its own flavor. That’s the town of Perast, which is located very close to the water. The mountain behind looms so close that Perast can’t develop – there’s no place 🙂 And that’s good, since the original view of the town and buildings is preserved. It’s especially romantic here, you have to feel it yourselves while here.

What’s more, two miniscule islands belong to the town of Perast where monasteries are located. One is acting, and to the other one you can sail on the boat and walk. Read in more details here.

Perhaps the most unforgettable place in the Bay of Kotor and Montenegro is a town with a gentle name Muo. It’s really gently here. Old but graceful houses with neat shutters and romantic wrought iron gratings. There’s a pier in each house, where a tree can grow to make shadow on a hot day, romantic table and chairs or a bench.

Sit on them and watch the breath of nature, dancing waves and calmness of majestic mountains. You really want to spend all day on a pier or a terrace of a house here and just enjoy the day and life. Try it yourself, but not during a hot tourist season. However, Muo is located opposite Kotor, where tourist life is concentrated. And from the Muo banks you can watch it remotely. It’s especially nice to watch Kotor at night, which is glowing around the perimeter and resembles a lying guitar. See more about Muo here.
