6 wonderful reasons to visit Tenerife (Canary Islands)

Tenerife is the best-known island of all the Canaries. The highest Teide volcano 3718 m high is here. And the largest resorts, many beaches and vast majority of amusement parks. If you go to this island, be sure to visit our list of the coolest places on Tenerife.

1) ascending the Teide volcano

Teide volcano is something unimaginable. It can be seen from almost all sides of Tenerife, and especially from all the rest of the Canary Islands. It is something, coming to the National Park at the volcano foot at the height of 2000 meters. Hardened lava flows for kilometers, cosmic deserts, and rocks. You can ascend Teide volcano in the easiest possible way – by a cable car. However, it’s less interesting and impressive option. It’s better to come up from the bottom taking a break for the night at the altitude of 3555 meters in a special building, and to continue the way in the morning before dawn to get to the crater at sunrise. It’s so impressive and memorable, that it’s certainly worth for the pains taken to ascend by feet.

2) The most beautiful Teresitas beach

There’s the only most beautiful beach equipped for resort over all the Canary Islands. It’s located near the Tenerife capital, Santa Cruz. Golden sand and calm smooth water protected from the stormy ocean by stone fence.

This beach is considered to be the one of local capital. There’s no large resort, just one little town on the edge, and the beach is surrounded by high mountains. It’s nice and cozy here. This beach is undoubtedly worth a visit! See more here

3) Incredible north of Tenerife

Perhaps the most charming place on the whole island is Taganana and Benijo. At the very edge of the island, where high upright cliffs sink into the ocean. Only little of the beaches with the cliffs around. Strong wind and waves are the constant notion here. But some unforgettable comfort predominates in Taganana. Perhaps contemplation of the landscape, large stones in the water constantly encircled by the waves, constant haze from the water create magic. Even the road leading here through a tunnel along the serpentine is fascinating by the surrounding scenery! See more here

4) Romantic Teno Lighthouse

In the south of the island you can find the most romantic place, so popular among many tourists. And for good reason! The atmosphere here is impressive: red and white lighthouse at the edge of an abyss, sunset, and high waves. The only wish is to meet and see the sun off sitting on top of the rock and cuddling. The road to the lighthouse is a thin strip on a high mountain, travel through tunnels, under the vertical walls fenced by protective netting for safety. Adrenaline rolls over yet at the commuting stage and then you face unrealistically marvelous pictures of the lighthouse, the abyss, meters-high waves. This place overwhelms with its energy and shares unforgettable impressions. See more here

5) the most youthful and beautiful city of La Laguna

The former capital of Tenerife san Crostobal de la Laguna is currently the favorite city for the islanders. The old center looking very picturesque is preserved here. Even all coffee shops have the same chairs and tables in the streets. Splendid houses, narrow streets with fashionable shops, and old square with a church. Here you can find just a few tourists as opposed to the locals. On weekends the residents’ families walk out to dine out at their favorite facilities. Here you can come across the majority of young people, since inhabitants of the Canary Islands study here at popular universities. You certainly should have a stroll here and a sit in one of the cafes along with the locals and watch their easy and happy attitude to life. See more here

6) Old small cute towns that found a new lease of life after volcanos

Speaking of the south of Tenerife, almost all towns are built there for the tourists.

Since it is the island’s south with the best and warmest climate, compared to its northern part. But it’s better to visit or even settle in smaller, older towns possessing the soul and not the artifice. These towns are behind the best known northern resort of Tenerife – Puerto Cruz.

Interesting towns are Garachico and La Orotava that were once rich and luxurious, but had to be re-built at the lava remnants after the volcanic eruption and lava flooding. It turned out to be not bad, which is worth seeing. Or Punta Brava town, where the houses are partially built on a cliff and overlook the ocean with the abyss and high waves beneath. Walking these streets is impressive, and you can as well come up the balconies terraces or directly on the rocks, where fishermen are fishing. These cities have the soul worth seeing! See more here
